WILD BLUEBERRIES
Is wild blueberry good for your health?
Yes! Wild blueberries are known for their many health benefits . They are particularly rich in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins C and K, making them excellent for the heart, memory, and digestion.
What is the difference between a wild blueberry and a cultivated blueberry?
Wild blueberries grow naturally and have a more concentrated flavor. They also contain about twice as many antioxidants as cultivated blueberries. They are smaller but richer in health-promoting compounds.
How to preserve wild blueberries?
- Fresh: in the refrigerator, they keep for 7 to 10 days.
- Frozen: they keep their properties for up to 12 months.
- Dried: they can be kept for several months in an airtight container.
Can you eat wild blueberries every day?
Absolutely! Incorporating wild blueberries from Lac-Saint-Jean into your daily diet is a simple and delicious healthy habit. In smoothies, as a snack, or in your recipes, they're perfect for regular consumption.

What is the difference between wild blueberry and bilberry?
Although often confused, wild blueberries (Vaccinium angustifolium) and bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) are two different fruits:
- The wild blueberry , typical of Quebec and particularly of Lac-Saint-Jean, grows in dense mats and produces several small fruits per plant. Its flesh is light, sometimes greenish, and it is very resistant to cooking.
- The blueberry , more widespread in Europe, grows wild on isolated shrubs. It is generally darker, with purple or bluish flesh.
Both fruits are rich in antioxidants, but the taste, texture, and appearance differ significantly. At La Maison du Bleuet , we work exclusively with wild blueberries from Lac-Saint-Jean , renowned for their intense flavor and exceptional properties.
Where can I find wild blueberry plants?
Wild blueberry plants (Vaccinium angustifolium) are more difficult to grow than cultivated blueberry varieties because they naturally thrive in very specific conditions: acidic, well-drained, and often sandy soils like those of Lac-Saint-Jean . Wild blueberries spread primarily by their roots and are often managed as an extensive crop rather than a garden planting.
This is why you can't find wild blueberry plants for sale.
